Albert and Quakers Looking for Another Crack at States

Last Season | 13-8-1-2

Lost in the NYSPHSAA Division 1 Semi-Finals 5-1 to the eventual State Champion Syracuse Cougars

After reaching the New York State semifinals a year ago the Orchard Park Quakers have earned the right to pump out their chests a little more this season. Especially with the return of senior goaltender Ryan Albert.

Albert, along with other returning seniors Bryson Miller, Ryan Licursi and Aidan Jones look to continue building off the success they had in 2019. Also returning are juniors Owen Hughes (center) and Joe Redlinski (defense) who each saw big minutes in crucial games down the stretch.

Two key losses from the 2019 Section VI large school champions are Zach Mecca and Kyle Flynn (graduation) and Jack Kinsman (Jr. Sabres). Kinsman is going to be a tough piece to replace. The trio had 47 goals scored between them.

Head coach Josh Dannecker is in his fifth season and will remind his players to continue working hard and improve on the success of last season.

The main goal is to win the Section once again. “The Williamsville North game is always a tough one but all games in our division are incredibly difficult,” Dannecker said.

Albert is one of the premier goalies in the Fed who sported a .916 save percentage last season. He will have to be just as sharp this year to keep OP on top.

The Quakers officially open their season at the annual Fabulous 21 Tournament down in Section I, often referred to as the “Pelham Tournament.” They’ll face two teams from Section I in Horace-Greeley and North Rockland before heading home to play St. Francis on December 11th.

The Quakers and Spartans face-off the following night at Northtown.
