The Lake Shore Eagles will have a new women’s varsity basketball coach this winter. Danielle Arnone has stepped down after coaching the Lady Eagles to a regional playoff game late last winter.
Zachary Marshall is taking over the position after coaching the girls JV team at West Seneca West (WSW) last year. Marshall was a three-sport athlete at WSW and pitched at Erie Community College. Marshall graduated from SUNY Brockport in 2016 and soon after became a physical education teacher at JT Waugh elementary.
“I was appointed the girls coaching job this fall,” Marshall said.”My philosophy for the program is based around growth, development and fun. I believe that modified and JV need to be about everyone playing and having fun while learning the games fundamentals, strategies and tactics. I truly believe that if all of these are in place and practiced at the modified and JV level that more girls will play, have fun and be ready for Varsity where we are looking to put it all together with wins, season goals and success. I don’t know of any challenges yet but I am excited to work with a great group of girls that want to put it all together and have fun.”
Arnone stepped down last spring for a number of reasons but definitely wants to coach again in the future,”It is definitely a passion of mine,” Arnone stated in an email to WNY Athletics. Arnone also mentioned that she believes Marshall “seems to be a great fit” for the program.
This past summer Tashawni Cornfield, a second-team All-Western New York guard transferred to Putnam Science Academy in Connecticut. Her and sister Lani were two standout players from last year’s Section VI Class A title team.
The Lady Eagles are one of a dozen teams that will be participating in the inaugural WNY Athletics Girls Hoops Invitational scheduled for the weekend of December 13th, 2019.
