Yesterday’s Games

Grand Island 4, Williamsville South 1

The Vikings started out rusty in their first game action in two weeks, but proceeded to pick up the win.

Dylan Russo led the way with a pair of goals. Patrick Dworak and Michael Juntunen also scored for GI.

C.J. Wehr had the lone Billies goal.

St. Mary’s 3, Orchard Park 2

Chris Henry netted two goals as St. Mary’s completed a sweep of the Quakers.

Brendan Krawczyk scored the other Lancer goal.

Zachary Mecca had the two OP goals, which came less than a minute apart in the second period.

West Seneca West 2, St. Francis 2

The Red Raiders scored two late third period goals to tie the Indians.

Mike Velasquez netted the game’s first goal with 10:06 left in the first period and assisted on the second, scored by Billy Coughlin, which came with 13 seconds left in the second period.

Ryan Fitch and Shane Hobot had the two St. Francis goals.

West Seneca East 3, Starpoint 3

Connor Mentel’s hat-trick wasn’t enough for the Trojans as the Spartans came back for the tie.

West Seneca East struck first as Mentel found the back of the net with 8:40 left in the first. Joe LoBrutto scored for Starpoint with under a minute to go in the first.

The Trojans took a 3-2 lead into the second intermission as Mentel converted on the power play with two and a half minutes left in the period.

However, Starpoint came out fired up in the third controlling most of the action. All of their hard work paid off when Blake Dewey scored with 4:50 left in the regulation.

Max Ciepiela netted the second Spartan goal.

Austin Meidenbauer stood tall in net for East, making 25 stops, including four in the overtime period. Starpoint’s A.J. White made 12 saves for his team.

Today’s Games

Niagara Wheatfield vs. Starpoint 5:40 p.m. Hockey Outlet

The Falcons went into the Winter break as the top public school team (in the Large Schools) after knocking off Williamsville North last Saturday. N-W is led by Chris Caccitore with 11 points, including two power play goals. Joe LoBrutto leads the Spartans with 10 points this season.

Clarence vs. Orchard Park

The Red Devils are coming off back-to-back wins over Frontier as they now have seven points on the season. Isaiah Corry and Trevor Arno have three goals and two assists each on the season. The Quakers won the first matchup, on Nov. 29th, by a score of 5-3.

Iroquois-Alden vs. Bishop Timon

Iroquois-Alden got back on track Friday with a win over Lockport-Niagara Falls. They will look to finish off 2018 strong with a win over the Tigers. Timon’s Sean McCarthy, who had a hat-trick in Thursday’s win over Amherst, now has 13 points on the season.

North Tonawanda vs. Lew-Port 6:30 p.m. Cornerstone Arena

Both teams have had a rough go as of late. This game is a chance for one of them to turn the tide and begin building some momentum heading into 2019.
