Yesterday’s games
Lancaster 3, Williamsville North 1
Riley Dirschberger netted the game-winning goal with 5:02 left in the second as the Legends topped the Spartans for their sixth league win of the season.
The win momentarily gives Lancaster the top spot in the Large School Playoffs with 12 points.
The Legends took the lead as Anthony Scoma found the back of the net less than three minutes into the game.
Williamsville North took advantage of a power play in the second period to tie the game. Jacob Penetrante scored, assisted by Ryan Powers and Jacob Okulewicz.
Max Richter netted the empty net goal with four seconds left to seal it for Lancaster.
Netminder Dean Hahn made 33 saves in the win.
Starpoint 5, Sweet Home 3
The Spartans stormed out to a five-goal lead and never looked back earning their second straight win.
Chuck Schmidl led the way with two goals for Starpoint. Brenden Dewey, Spencer Slote, and Max Ciepiela also scored for the Spartans.
Eric Abbate, Cameron Coogan, and Cole Feldmann netted the Panther goals.
Geoffrey Schotz and A.J. White split time in net for Starpoint combining for 23 saves.
Friday’s games
Amherst vs. West Seneca East 5:30 p.m. West Seneca Ice Rink
The Trojans have been on a roll earning at least a point in six of their last seven games. The Tigers are coming off a 4-1 loss to Lockport-Niagara Falls on Saturday.
Grand Island vs. Hamburg 5:30 p.m. Northtown Center
The Vikings had their five-game win streak snapped in a 3-2 loss to Bishop Timon on Monday. The Bulldogs picked up their first win since Dec. 17 on Monday beating Kenmore East by the same score.
Williamsville South vs. North Tonawanda 6:00 p.m. Cornerstone Ice Arena
The Billies are coming off a tough 4-2 defeat at the hands of Lew-Port on Saturday. The Lumberjacks are on a two-game skid after losing to Starpoint and Williamsville East.
Kenmore West vs. Williamsville East 7:45 p.m. Northtown Center
The Blue Devils pulled out a 2-0 win over Lew-Port on Sunday as they take on the red-hot Flames. Will East has won four-straight games and six of their last seven.
St. Francis vs. Starpoint 8:15 p.m. Cornerstone Ice Arena
The Red Raiders haven’t won since Dec. 23 and they were last in action on Sunday when they fell to Grand Island, 4-2. The last time the Spartans lost was Dec. 30 in a non-league game against Niagara Wheatfield. Since then, Starpoint has gone 3-0-2.
Timon vs. St. Joe’s 8:30 p.m. HarborCenter
The Tigers will finish off their Monsignor Martin schedule this weekend, starting with St. Joe’s. Timon bounced back from their 2-1 loss to Canisius on Saturday with a win over Division III contender Grand Island on Monday. The Marauders have yet to lose in WNY play this season.
