Bulldogs’ Growth Shows With 3-0 Start

The Kenmore East Lady Bulldogs swept Buffalo Academy of Performing Arts 3-0, in a non-league girls volleyball matchup on Thursday.

With the win, the Lady Bulldogs begin the season with a 3-0 record, winning 9 of the 10 sets they have played so far.

“So far I’ve seen some great things from this team” says Kenmore East Head Coach Megan Crawford. The Bulldogs have confidence and are starting to run plays as they head into the gauntlet of their NFL schedule.

Senior Kendall Mills is thrilled about the 3-0 start, “It’s amazing…it would be very cool to go far and I believe we have the talent” says Mills.

Kenmore East opened their season on Sept. 2 when they defeated new NFL member Charter School for Applied Technology 3-0. On Sept. 6, the Dogs hosted Lew-Port, beating the Lancers 3-1.

On Thursday, the Bulldogs showed why they are undefeated so far in 2016. They won in commanding fashion with scores of 25-21, 25-12, and 25-22.

“We didn’t communicate well and our service hurt us” said Performing Arts Head Coach Paula Lawson after the loss.

Leading the Bulldogs are seniors Kendall Mills who had 7 assists and libero Anna Taylor who had 7 digs. Junior Serena Sordetto had 5 kills for the Bulldogs and classmate Jordan McKenna had 3 kills. Anna’s sister Jordan, a sophomore on varsity, had 7 digs and 3 kills in the win. Sophomore Brooke O’Connor had 11 digs.

For Coach Crawford this team is a little extra special for her and the early success is a testament to the girls’ hard work. “This team now, is the team I started with JV three years ago, the amount of growth is unreal” says coach, “(3 years ago) I had girls who could barely hit the ball, now they nail it.”

Kenmore East (3-0) will host Niagara Wheatfield (1-1) on Monday at 4:30 pm. Performing Arts (1-1) will travel to McKinley (1-0) Friday (Sept. 9) to face the Lady Macks at 6 pm.
