Chautauqua Lake Repeats as CCAA Division I Wrestling Champion



WNY #1 small school Chautauqua Lake defended its Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association (CCAA) Division I title on Wednesday with a 47-22 road victory over #3 Falconer/Cassadaga Valley, completing a second consecutive unbeaten schedule in league duals at 6-0 for the outright division title.

 

The now two-time defending Section VI Division II Dual Meet champion team posted impressive scores over league rivals this season scoring a combined 343 points and conceding only 74 total team points in the six conference duals.

 

On Wednesday, Falconer picked up the first lead of the dual with a decision at 152-pounds. The Eagles responded winning six of the next seven matches with five pins and a technical fall beginning at 160-pounds and ending with a crucial head to head pin from Gavin Burchanowski at 108 for a commanding 35-10 lead.

 

Falconer got some relief with a decision at 116 and a pin at 124, however a pin by Jordin Eddy at 131 sealed the win for Chautauqua Lake with two matches remaining in the dual.

 

John Watson (160), Jayden Malecki (190), Mason Maring (215), Walter Lukasiak (285), Alex Bourgeois (101), and Jordan Joslyn (145) also won bouts for Chautauqua Lake who tallied six pins in the dual.

 

Charlie Reichenbach (152), Patrick Braley (170), Dylan Newman (116), Gabe Lundmark (124) and Nicolas Russell (138) were winners for Falconer who completes the league slate at 4-2 in CCAA I.

 

The Eagles will represent Section VI on Saturday at the 6th NYSPHSAA Dual Meet Championships as the 5-seed in the small school bracket. CL will take on Section V champion 4-seed Palmyra-Macedon and Section VII champion Northern Adirondack in their opening pool duals.
