Class C Football Roundup: Medina, Newfane headed for showdown; exciting finish ahead for South

Class C North seems quite literally to be a two-horse race after five weeks of play. Medina and Newfane are still undefeated. The two teams will face one another next Thursday in a game being livestreamed on WNY Athletics.

The Panthers extended their unbeaten streak last weekend defeating JFK 48-6, that's the team Medina faces Friday night at Veterans Park.

So far for the Mustangs, it's been the Christian Moss show. The sophomore has caught the attention of many as he's gone over 600 yards rushing in just four games (Medina won via forfeit in week 2). Julian Woodworth is carrying a lot of weight in that offense as well. The QB is a strong dual-threat option for head coach Eric Valley.

Newfane has quite a bit of depth on their roster as noted in this section a time or three. Nate Snow is delivering for the Panthers in a big way but he does have quite the arsenal backing him up.

Their meeting next Thursday is proving to be one of the most anticipated of the season.

Regardless of the outcome, both teams are playoff bound. Akron (2-3, 2-2) and Roy-Hart/Barker (2-3,1-2) are holding onto the final two spots in C North. JFK and Cleve Hill are both winless. The Golden Eagles however have a path to the postseason. They play Newfane, Roy-Hart/Barker and close out against JFK. They most likely need to win out, but the scenario is there for the taking.

In C South it's going to be an exciting finish.

Salamanca has won four straight since a season-opening loss to Franklinville/Ellicottville. The Warriors take on the other Class D power CSP on Saturday afternoon.

Both Southwestern and Portville have been playing at a high level since Week 2 as well. Each team is 4-1 and coming off some very impressive victories.

Portville will host Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Brocton on Friday, another team that's fighting to stay alive in the playoff picture. CL/W/B are in a must win situation as they are 2 games back in the C South standings. They trail Falconer/CassadagaValley/Maple Grove.

The Herd take on Portville this week before a showdown against CL/W/B. That could be the deciding factor on that 4th and final playoff spot.
