CSP Dominates Tioga 54-19 to Advance to State Final

ENDICOTT, NY – In a battle of the top two ranked teams in Class D, Clymer/Sherman/Panama (CSP) showed there’s a big gap between #1 and #2.

The Wolfpack got in the endzone just 44 seconds into the game and never stopped, routing Section IV’s Tioga Tigers 54-19 in the NYSPHSAA Class D Football Western semifinal Friday.

CSP advances to next Friday’s Class D State Championship game 12 p.m. at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.

Senior Michael Beatman, who was one of seven members of the Wolfpack to find the endzone Friday, took a handoff 50 yards as CSP scored on its first drive of the game.

After the defense came up with a three-and-out, a short punt gave the Wolfpack prime field position. CSP took advantage as Gerrit Hinsdale led a 58-yard scoring drive capped off by a 16-yard touchdown run from Derek Ecklund with 6:36 left in the first.

Cameron Barmore made a highlight-reel catch jumping over the defender and taking it to endzone to give his team an 18-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The Tigers got their first score off a questionable fumble in which CSP stopped playing after it appeared Hinsdale was down. Austin Lamb took the loose ball 55 yards to the endzone with four minutes left the second quarter.

However, the Wolfpack bounced back, scoring before the break as Hinsdale found Chance Meeder on a 13-yard pass and catch to extend their lead to 25-6.

Tioga came out strong to start the second half as Brady Worthing kept it for a 22-yard touchdown run.

But CSP once again answered back on their next as John Swabik went 48 yards to put his team ahead by three scores with 7:07 left in the third.

Barmore got his second score of the day making a 64-yard touchdown catch to close out the third quarter with a 40-13 lead.

The Wolfpack added two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter courtesy of Zavon Overton and Beatman.
