Another title for the Ladyjacks and the first W for new coach Dan Norton during a busy day of high school sports action around WNY.
Girls soccer:
Kaylee Valentic scored twice to earn MVP honors as the Ladyjacks posted a no doubt 6-1 win over the Lady Warriors as they took the TNT Cup for the sixth consecutive year. Coupled with the boys game in last week’s championship of the Dan Durick tourney, the Jacks have now swept the Warriors two years in a row.
Baylin Tighe scored the Warriors’ lone goal. Tonawanda’s MVP went to Alyssa Aceti.
Grand Island 2, Mt. St. Mary 1
Abby Blair and Eve DiCarlo scored for the Lady Vikings in their win over the Thunder.
Leah Giles scored for the Mount.
Boys soccer:
Tonawanda 3, Eden 1
Devon Carey made five saves, while Alex Taylor and Hayden Lilly each had a goal and an assist in the Warriors win over Eden.
Boys Volleyball:
Kenmore West 3, Niagara-Wheatfield 0
Ken-West Class of 2012 grad Dan Norton picked up his first varsity coaching win as the Blue Devils took three straight from the Falcons 25-22, 25-12 and 25-21.
“Its great to see your team come together playing at the level that you’ve known they could play at for the last three-four years,” said Norton, who previously coached JV.
“It’s relieving that we’re on that roll that we’re gonna be on for the rest of the season.”
Setter Ryan Emler (16 assists) kept the offense humming dishing the ball to Will Hudson (six kills/four blocks) and Alex Walker (seven kills), while Jake Andrews was sharp defensively with 10 digs.
The Blue Devils travel to Ken-East Friday.
Girls volleyball:
Williamsville East 3, Starpoint 0
The NYSPHSAA Class A runner-up Lady Flames posted 3-0 win over Starpoint on Tuesday. Winning by scores of 25-21, 25-14 and 25-9.
North Tonawanda 3, CSAT 0
The Ladyjacks had little trouble topping the Eagles winning in three by scores of 25-5, 25-5 and 25-20.
Emily Anastasi had 15 digs, while Laney Wieclaw had five digs and Chase Steingasser chipped in with eight kills.
Nagara-Wheatfield 3, Kenmore West 0
Jenna Sonnenberg had 13 digs as the Falcons swept the Blue Devils by scores of 25-12, 25-13 and 25-17.
Emily Brochey had nine assists and four services aces, while Katie Kostiw had seven kills.
Samantha Veronica had 13 assists while libero Chloe Moore had 17 digs.
Kenmore East 3, Lewiston-Porter 0
The Lady Bulldogs move to 2-0 in the NFL as they took down the Lancers 25-15, 25-15 and 25-20.
Jordan Taylor has seven kills, five aces and seven digs and Gabrielle Sordetto eight digs, two kills and two aces. Kailey Pfaltzer had five kills and on block for Lew-Port.
The Dogs travel to Ken-West Friday (6pm) to face their crosstown rivals.
The official Twitter of Sweet Home boys soccer announced that their Coaches v. Cancer Tournament that took place Aug. 24-25 pulled in $1,872.35 for Roswell Park.
