The Amherst Lady Tigers celebrated their seniors on Tuesday night in a big way with a 5-1 win over West Seneca East Trojans in ECIC II Girls Soccer action.
Senior Jordan Zimmerman made Senior Night count, opening the scoring with the first goal of her career.
Freshman Karlie Mann responded back for West Seneca East. Mann now has 13 goals on the season, leading her team.
Then Quinn DeCicco took over the game for about a minute for Amherst, but a minute was all they needed. The sophomore scored with 12:58 left in the 1st half. But DeCicco didn’t celebrate for long, as she found the back of the net again, before a minute of play had gone by. The Tigers took a 3-1 lead into the half.
In the 2nd, the Tigers’ offense had a lot of confidence and kept play mostly in the West Seneca East end.
Amherst had several corner kicks in the second half giving them a lot of scoring chances.
Quinn’s sister Abby DeCicco, a senior in her 5th year on varsity, got to work in front of the net. She headed a corner kick just above the crossbar. Later she deflected a corner off her foot for a goal.
Senior Haley Duria finished the scoring for the night, deflecting in another corner.
After the game West Seneca East Coach Jeff Bauda was happy with the effort his team showed but knows they need to finish, “We had some opportunities and we didn’t capitalize” said Bauda, “We were in the game. I don’t think that the score really reflects the outcome”.
“We came out strong, we kept up the pressure and never let up” said Abby DeCicco.
“It was exciting to get a big win for our seniors on Senior Day” said Quinn DeCicco.
The DeCicco sisters combined for 3 goals in the win. In her third year on varsity, Quinn has 12 goals. Abby has 4 goals and 5 assists on the season.
Amherst Head Coach JoAnna Fildes had high praise for the sisters saying, “You can’t take them off the field, they’re as tough as nails.”
West Seneca East (4-7) travels to Iroquois to take on the Chiefs (1-11) tonight at 5pm. The Tigers (7-4-1) have a few days off before hosting Sweet Home (0-10-1) on Friday at 4:45pm. Both games are ECIC Division II match ups.
