Recapping Yesterday’s Games
Pioneer 9, West Seneca East 0
Pioneer moves to 10-4-1 with a 9-0 win over West Seneca East. Amber Reisdorf (3), Olivia Kempf (2) and Kim Breton (1) each scored for the Lady Panthers.
With the win, Pioneer moves into 3rd place in Class B. They will finish off their regular season on Monday when they host Sweet Home.
West Seneca East will finish off regular season play by visiting Amherst on Monday and Starpoint on Tuesday.
Starpoint 2, Amherst 3
Amherst grabbed a 3-2 win over Starpoint to wrap up their Homecoming Week.
Jill Martin kicked off the scoring for Amherst (assisted by Vicky Woite); followed by a goal from Olivia Cinquino to give Amherst two scores in regulation. Gabby Sirica and Lia Pusateri also scored for Starpoint, sending the game into overtime.
Three minutes in, Olivia Cinquino netted her second goal of the night off a strong cross from Allie Thielman.
Starpoint will host Williamsville South on Monday and West Seneca East on Tuesday.
Amherst will host West Seneca East on Monday and Sweet Home on Tuesday.
Iroquois 1, Williamsville South 0
Williamsville South entered the game fully intent on knocking off #1 Iroquois. The Lady Chiefs narrowly escaped with a 1-0 win thanks to senior captain Ella Sturm’s game winning goal (assisted by Madison Kasten).
Madison Miranda had a 7-save shutout in goal.
Williamsville East 2, Eden 0
Jenna Cavaleri and Laura Kaplan each tallied a goal in Williamsville East’s victory over Eden. Grace Burker had 8 saves for the Lady Flames.
The win moves Williamsville East into 2nd place in Class B. With a win on Monday against Iroquois they can clinch the second seed in Class B. A loss, however, could potentially drop them to the 4th seed depending on how Pioneer and Williamsville South finish off their seasons.
Orchard Park 0, Williamsville North 6
Williamsville North clinched the #1 seed in Class A with a 6-0 win over Orchard Park.
Hamburg 2, Holland 1
Nicole Park scored 1 goal in second half to tie game and send into overtime. Sydney Gordon, Lyndsay Cyrek and Justune Burke each scored a goal in shootout to win game . Jaiden Barnes had 1st half shutout.
Sectionals Outlook: Class A
Williamsville North entered the season as the #1 ranked team in WNY and they’ll be finishing off the regular season as the #1 ranked team in Class A and ECIC. Their win over Orchard Park on Friday evening clinched the top spot heading into Sectionals.
As a ripple effect, that contest also clinched every standing in the remainder of the Class as Orchard Park is now unable to catch Lancaster.
The seeds are not final until the seeding meeting when all results and Power Ratings will be confirmed, but as it stands right now, this is how the Class A Sectional Seedings would fall out:
#1: Williamsville North
#2: Clarence
#3: Lancaster
#4: Orchard Park
#5: West Seneca West
#6: Kenmore-City Honors
Sectionals Outlook: Class B
Williamsville East’s 2-0 win over Eden moved them into second place in Class B, for now. With a win on Monday against Iroquois they can clinch the second seed in Class B. A loss, however, could potentially drop them to the 4th seed depending on how Pioneer and Williamsville South finish off their seasons.
Williamsville South has two games remaining (Starpoint and Hamburg) with 6 Power Points up for grabs. They trail Will East by five points, and if the Lady Flames fall short in their contest with Iroquois, two wins by the Lady Billies would see them slip ahead in the standings.
Pioneer trails Will East by two Power Points but still has a 3-point contest with Sweet Home on its schedule. They too, with a Will East loss, could slip into the second or third seed.
Sweet Home is the only other team in Class B who has locked in their seed.. they trail Williamsville South by 10 points but lead Hamburg by nine points. They’ll carry the #5 seed into Sectionals.
Hamburg, Amherst and Starpoint have 10, 9 and 8 Power Points respectively. With each team having two games remaining on their schedules, it is still to early to predict where each team will ultimately fall.
Sectionals Outlook: Class C
Barker and Roy-Hart will be the top two seeds in Class C. Who ends up on top, however, will come down to Tuesday evening’s contest in Barker.
The last time these two teams met was September 20th when Barker narrowly walked away with a 2-1 victory. Those two goals are the only blemish on Roy-Hart’s scoresheet as they’ve outscored their opponents 48-2 so far this year.
The #3 seed will be determined by the West Seneca West @ Eden game on Monday. An Eden win will maintain their 3rd place standing. A loss however, would drop their Power Rating to 2.22, falling short of Akron’s 2.33, thereby dropping them to the #4 seed.
Medina is locked in as the #5 seed as their Power Rating, with a win on Tuesday would only get them to 2.08.
A win for Wilson on Tuesday would clinch the #6 seed. A Wilson loss and Holland win would see those teams flip their seeds.
