Field Hockey Roundup – Saturday, October 6th

Recapping Yesterday’s Games

East Aurora 0, Starpoint 4

Goals were scored by Makenzie Weber, Gabby Sirica, Maddie Floreano and Faith Lunn. Kiersten Balko was credited with the shutout.

Iroquois 4, Pioneer 2

In a classic Pioneer-Iroquois matchup, it was the tale of two halves.

The first half saw Pioneer’s Olivia Kempf score twice (assisted by Morgan McAfee). The second half saw four unanswered goals from Iroquois.

Liz Fonfara ignited the comeback scoring the first goal. Ava D’Amato quickly added one of her own with Quinn Wierzbowski tacking on the third goal for Iroquois, which would ultimately prove to be the game winner.

D’Amato added another goal as the game was winding down for good measure to give Iroquois the 4-2 victory. Riley DeGrace had assists on each of the last 3 goals for the Lady Chiefs.

As it stands right now, Iroquois needs 2 more wins or a victory over Williamsville South to clinch the #1 seed in Class B for Sectionals. Pioneer is still within striking distance of Will East and Will South if they are able to put together a string of 3 wins to finish off regular season play.

Clarence 4, Williamsville East 0

Clarence improves to 13-1 on the season with their only loss coming at the hands of Williamsville North. This win over Class B Williamsville East wasn’t enough to move them to the top of the Power Rankings, but it did keep them within reach of 1st place if Williamsville North slips up.

Williamsville East currently sits at 3rd place in Class B in a neck-and-neck race with Williamsville South for 2nd place. It’s too early to tell who will come out ahead.

Holland 9, West Seneca East 0

Kelsey Robertson scored a career-high 5 goals in Holland’s 9-0 win over West Seneca East. Kennedi Parsons, Regina Izadorzack, Alexa Neitch and Jenna Dietz also scored for Holland.

Abby Neitch earned the shutout in goal.

West Seneca West 1, Lancaster 2

Jillian Blas tallied a pair of goals (1 assisted by Jeanette Szefler) to help Lancaster defeat WSW 2-1. The West Seneca West goal was scored by Katie Orcutt.

Lancaster improves to 9-3-1 on the year and currently sits at 3rd place in Class A. The Legends will clinch third place for Sectionals with two wins (against any opponent) or one win and an Orchard Park loss.

Williamsville North @ Hamburg

No score or official stats were reported for this game.

Medina 5, Kenmore-City Honors 2

Libby Cook and Micaela Erway each added a pair of goals for the Lady Mustangs. Sarah Cochrane also scored for Medina; Mary Flores (2), Grace Cook (1) and Guinevere Schalck (1) contributed the assists.

Medina improves to 8-4 overall and now moves within one game of Akron. Their game on October 11th will likely determine who gets the higher seed for Sectionals.

Eden, who plays in ECIC, has three Class B opponents and a Class A opponent remaining on their schedule. Two wins from the Lady Raiders will clinch 3rd place, making the Akron @ Medina game a battle for 4th and 5th place.
