Field Hockey Roundup: Sept 19th, 2018

Recapping Yesterday’s Games

Medina blanked Akron 2-0 for their first win over the Lady Tigers in 14 years. Goals were scored by Sarah Cochrane and Grace Cook. Goalie Alissa Blount made 8 saves and earned her first official shutout of the season.

Barker played host to Newfane yesterday as they blanked Newfane 6-0. Kaedynce Schumacher kicked off the scoring with an assist from Natalie Bruning at 23:16 in the 1st. Katrina Clare added two unassisted goals herself in the first half. Barker would add three goals in the second half courtesy of Ciara Gregoire, Miya Goodale (assisted by Lena Fazzolari) and Madison Gancasz.

Roy-Hart remains the only undefeated team in the N-O league with a 3-0 win over Wilson. Goals were scored by Ashley Hill, Alexis Lovewell and Samantha Choate (also tallied an assist). Jamie Bower earned her 7th straight shutout of the 2018 season.

Clarence traveled to Will-North for their first league game of the year. Will-North again proved why they were an early season favorite with a close 2-1 victory over the Lady Red Devils. Senior Breanna Shannon played one of her best games of the year as she led the defensive effort for the Lady Spartans.

Kylie Rosen and Lauren Rabinowitz scored for Will-North. Sam Mallare tallied 15 saves.

What To Watch For

With their win yesterday, Medina moves into 4th place in the N-O league, trailing 3rd place Akron by one game. A win on Thursday against Wilson would move them into 3rd place behind Barker and Roy-Hart.

Barker will be making the trip to Roy-Hart tomorrow afternoon for a battle of the top two teams in the league. A win at Roy-Hart will allow them to claim the top spot in the league. However, to do so they will have to find a way to score against a Lady Rams team led by goalie Jamie Bower. Bower just happens to be the only goalie in Section VI to play every minute of the season and has yet to give up a goal.

Roy-Hart’s defensive game is complimented by the 6th highest scoring offense in Section VI (#2 in the N-O league). On the flipside, Barker’s 31 team goals currently rank 3rd in Section VI (#1 in the N-O league). Their offense features the 2nd leading goal scorer in Section VI, Katrina Clare, with 11 goals thus far. If there is any team in the N-O league that has a chance to break Roy-Hart’s winning streak, it’s Barker.
