Field Hockey Roundup – Sept 28th, 2018

Recapping Yesterday’s Games

Roy-Hart 1, Medina 0

Roy-Hart, just like Barker on Tuesday, narrowly escaped visiting Medina with a 1-0 win thanks to a goal from Alexis Lovewell (assisted by Miah Glena). Jamie Bower’s 10 saves earned her a shutout.

With the win, Roy-Hart (9-1, 7-1) regains its first place standing in the Niagara-Orleans league and Class C with a 3.13 Power Rating. Roy-Hart will play a non-league game against Sacred Heart on Tuesday and travel to Newfane on Thursday.

Even though they went 0-2 this past week against the top 2 teams in Class C, both losses were single goal deficits, compared to the first time around that Barker and Roy-Hart outscored Medina by a combined 9-2 score. Medina is a team on the rise and they’re on track to peak just before Sectionals.

Medina will host Newfane on Tuesday before making a trip to Kenmore-City Honors on Thursday.

Wilson 2, Kenmore-City Honors 1

Wilson improved to 3-4 with a 2-1 win over Kenmore-City Honors.

Jessica Botham assisted on Emma Epstein’s goal for the Devil Dogs.

Wilson will host Sacred Heart tomorrow afternoon; Kenmore-City Honors will visit Akron on Tuesday.

Akron 8, Newfane 0

Olivia Diebel had a season-high 5 goals (+1 assist) in Akron’s 8-0 win over Newfane. Alexis Bell (2) and Laicy Berghorn (1) also scored for the Tigers.

With the win, Akron sits at 3rd place in Class C – just one game behind Barker. Two wins next week would move them into second place in the Sectional Standings.

Iroquois 4, Orchard Park 0

Quinn Wierzbowski scored her second hat-trick of the season en route to Iroquois’ 4-0 win over Orchard Park. Ava D’Amato also scored for the Lady Chiefs. Hayden Herbold turned away 6 shots in goal to record her fourth shutout of the season.

Iroquois will host Holland on Monday before making a trip out to East Aurora on Wednesday and Pioneer on Friday.

Orchard Park will travel out to Starpoint on Monday and host West Seneca East on Wednesday.
