Field Hockey Roundup – Tuesday, October 23rd

Section VI – Class A Field Hockey Playoffs

Lancaster (#3) vs Kenmore-City Honors (#6)

Lancaster advances to the semis with a 4-0 victory over Kenmore-City Honors. Jordan Rokitka had 1 goal and 2 assists. Madison Tadusz & Sara Zielinski shared in the shutout effort.

The Lady Legends will square off with #2-seeded Clarence @ 6pm on Wednesday (the game will be played at Williamsville North HS).

Clarence and Lancaster previously met in their regular season finales – a 5-1 victory for Clarence on Tuesday, October 16th.

If Lancaster is going to top Clarence this time around, they’ll need to find an answer for Maggie Kelkenberg. Kelkenberg currently leads Section VI with 30 goals and had a hat-trick against the Lady Legends in their first contest.

Orchard Park (#4) vs West Seneca West (#5)

Orchard Park narrowly slipped past West Seneca West with a 1-0 victory thanks to a goal from Jesse Peters (assisted by Grace Schmelzinger) halfway through the first half.

This win earns them an opportunity to square off with #1 seed Williamsville North in the semifinals at 6pm on Wednesday.

 


Section VI – Class B Field Hockey Playoffs

Iroquois (#1) vs Starpoint (#8)

The Lady Chiefs topped Starpoint with a 3-0 effort to advance to the semis on Wednesday.

Ava D’Amato kicked off the scoring for Iroquois, followed by goals from Ella Sturm and Quinn Wierzbowski. Ella Sturm, Riley DeGrace and Liz Fonfara had the assists.

Madison Miranda was credited with the shutout in goal.

Pioneer (#2) vs Hamburg (#7)

Pioneer advances with a 5-0 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.

Olivia Kempf led the scoring for her team with a hat-trick, bringing her season total to 21 goals.

Morgan McAfee and Mykala Furman each added a goal and an assist. The win is Pioneer’s 10th shutout of the season.

Williamsville South (#3) vs Amherst (#6)

The Lady Billies’ 3-0 victory over Amherst earns them a trip to the semis.

Senior captain Anna Lorenzo scored nine minutes into the game to give South the early lead over Amherst. Three minutes into the second half, sophomore Elizabeth Jackson crossed the ball to senior Chloe Mckenna to put the Billies up 2-0.

Two minutes later Elizabeth Jackson scored the third goal (assisted by Chloe McKenna).

Senior captain Elisabeth Sidorski and senior center back Nina Stephens were both standout players for South.

Williamsville East (#4) vs Sweet Home (#5)

The Lady Flames won a 5-4 nail biter over Sweet Home to advance to the semifinals.

Jenna Cavalieri (3) and Laura Kaplan (2) scored for Williamsville East. Aniya Evans had an assist.

Moving Ahead to Semis

***Important Note: Both semifinal games will be played at 8pm @ Williamsville North HS***

#1-seeded Iroquois will square off with #4-seeded Williamsville East.

The two teams last played on Monday, October 15th – a game the Lady Chiefs took with a 2-0 victory.

#2-seeded Pioneer will square off with #3-seeded Williamsville South

These two teams haven’t seen each other since September 21st when Pioneer walked away with a 1-0 victory.

 


Section VI – Class C Field Hockey Playoffs

Barker (#1) vs Newfane (#8)

Barker blanked Newfane 5-0 to advance to the semifinals.

Katrina Clare kicked off the scoring for the Lady Raiders less than two minutes into the game (she’d finish with 3 goals on the night).

Emily Wagner (assisted by Kaedynce Schumacher) and Miya Goodale (assisted by Natalie Bruning) also scored for Barker.

Paige Sandolfini and Megan Hotaling shared in the shutout effort in goal.

Roy-Hart (#2) vs Holland (#7)

Roy-Hart advanced to the semifinals with a 4-0 win over Holland.

Ashley Hill led the offensive effort with 2 goals and 1 assist. Alexis Lovewell and McKenzie Rothwell also scored for the Lady Rams.

RayLynn Chraston and Jenna Hieser each contributed an assist.

Eden (#3) vs Wilson (#6)

Eden turned in a 5-goal performance to top Wilson and advance to the semifinals.

Kelsey Pressing led the way with 3 goals in the second half.

Akron (#4) vs Medina (#5)

Akron squeaked past Medina with a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Alexis Bell and Madison Brege. Olivia Diebel had an assist in the winning effort.

Moving Ahead to Semis

***Important Note: Both semifinal games in Class C will be played at Clarence HS***

Barker (#1) vs Akron (#4)

Barker’s lone loss in league play this year came at the hands of the Akron Lady Tigers.. a 2-1 decision. Barker would avenge the loss later in the year with a 2-1 win of their own over Akron to tie the season-series at 1-1.

Roy-Hart (#2) vs Eden (#3)

Roy-Hart’s Jamie Bower has been nearly perfect all season in goal for the Lady Rams. Her 97% save percentage and 0.22 Goals Against Average both currently lead Section VI.

For Eden to get past Roy-Hart they’ll need to draw first blood. Roy-Hart is 15-0 in games this year when they score first.
