Football Player of the Week: Joe Carlson
Today we kick off our G&G Fitness Football Player of the Week series where we’ll recognize an athlete who exemplifies great character on and off the field.
This week’s selection was a consensus pick within our staff: Starpoint’s Joe Carlson.
Joe Carlson is having the type of season that ends with a seat at the Connolly Cup Banquet where the best football player in WNY is crowned. Last weekend in a game versus West Seneca East Carlson all but guaranteed himself the invite.
Known for catching touchdown passes, Carlson returned an early first quarter interception 90 yards for the score and Starpoint never looked back.
“I’m glad Joe’s on my team,” Starpoint coach Al Cavagnaro said. “He’s fabulous, he’s dynamite. Every time he touches the ball, he can go.”
Carlson followed up the Pick-6 with four receiving TD’s and made five extra points. He essentially scored in all three phases (offense, defense and special teams) of the game last Friday night.
“It is unreal the plays that kid makes,” sophomore quarterback Carson Marcus said. “When I’m throwing to him, I feel like I can throw that ball wherever I want and he’s going to go get it.”
With his five touchdowns, Carlson set a new Starpoint record.
Congrats to Joe Carlson for being named the G&G Fitness Football Player of the Week!
