SJCI – Press Release
(Buffalo, NY—October 25, 2017) – St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute is proud to announce senior Garrett House as the recipient of the 36th annual Phil Scaffidi Alumni Scholarship Award for the 2017-18 academic year.
The award is presented annually to a senior who best illustrates the spirit and sportsmanship of St. Joe’s alumnus Phil Scaffidi ’74. The recipient must exemplify dedication and determination, and demonstrate good citizenship to the community and to St. Joe’s.
A skilled member of the football, wrestling, and lacrosse programs at the school, Garrett’s coaches describe him as an excellent example for younger teammates on how to listen to coaches, compete at the highest level, and have fun.
“Garrett is the total package: a ferocious competitor on the mat, mentally strong, and a true gentleman of integrity,” described Pete Kennedy ’97, St. Joe’s Director of Admissions and Varsity Wrestling Coach. “Though his accomplishments include a CHSAA state title
and nearly 100 career wins, I am most proud of the character Garrett exhibits when results do not go in his favor – winning and losing with class.”
St Joe’s alumni Robert J. Schreck ’73, Michael A. Caligiuri ’74, and Paul Catalano ’74 created the scholarship in 1981 in honor of their close friend and classmate.
Garrett resides in Getzville and is planning to study either business management or pre-med.
