Georgetown Cup Semifinals Recap: Thursday, May 30th

With both lower seeds one loss away from elimination, one side’s season came to an end while another forced a decisive Game 3.

No. 1 St. Joe’s 12 – No. 5 Bishop Timon 0 (St. Joe’s wins series 2-0)

The Marauders punched their ticket to the Georgetown Cup final in dominant fashion, putting up at least one run in all seven innings and shutting out Timon for the second day in a row. Senior Will Hearn gave St. Joe’s five strong innings on the mound, striking out four and allowing just two hits. Senior Connor McKendry continued his hot hand at the plate in the postseason going 4 for 5 with two RBIs and two runs. In two playoff games McKendry has an astounding .778 batting average. Junior Sam Murphy finished 3 for 5 with two doubles and three RBIs.

No. 2 Canisius 5 – No. 3 St. Mary’s 8 (Series tied 1-1)

St. Joe’s will have to wait a little longer to figure out who their opponent will be in the final, all thanks to a strong season-saving effort from St. Mary’s. Sophomore Trent Rumley tossed a complete game for the Lancers tallying six strikeouts. Junior Luke Szablewski went 2 for 3 with three RBIs. Junior Chris Nieno tacked on a 2-RBI double to help bolster the lead. With the Lancer victory, a decisive win or go home Game 3 will decide which squad will join the Marauders in the championship. That ballgame will take place at 4:30 p.m. on Friday at Delaware Park.
