Grand Island (2-0) earned its second shutout in a row defeating Williamsville South (1-1) 5-0. Garrett Robinson was the man of the match with 2 goals and 2 assists. Things started off shaky for the Vikings with Joe Malinowski creating a lot of chances for the Billies. Steven Pufpaff was able to stop four chances that looked to be certain goals in the first 15 minutes. Grand Island started to turn things around and at the 23 minute mark Garrett Robinson began to take over. Two goals in a span of two minutes with assists from Sean Pufpaff and Jake Gleave put the Vikings in control. John Griffin scored right before halftime on an assist from Anthony Emmi to take the vikings into the break with a 3-0 lead.
In the second half, the viking defense led by Jake Gleave, Anthony Stolfo, and Joe Boyko clamped down on Malinowski and gave the impressive forward little room to work. Garrett Robinson switched roles from goal scorer to helper in the second half where he assisted on goals by Sean Pufpaff and Justin Kozlowski. The Vikings look to continue their winning ways as they head into league play this Thursday at home against Niagara Wheatfield, 6:30 under the lights at Gene Masters Field. Will South looks to right the ship against Hamburg at home on Wednesday in an ECIC II matchup.
