HS Roundup – Sept 11

Field Hockey:

Akron 2, Barker 1

It was the marquee match-up of the night and it didn’t disappoint.

Alexis Bell had the game winning goal at the 7:52 mark of overtime as Akron edged Barker, 2-1, Tuesday afternoon.

The game was a rematch of last year’s Section VI Class C title game that pitted the Niagara-Orleans League co-champs against each other.

Once again, Akron came out the victor.

After playing to a 0-0 tie in the fiest half, Barker junior Katrina Clare for her team on the board at the 15:39 mark.

Olivia Diebel, who set up Bell’s game-winner, tied the game two minutes after Clare’s goal.

“It was a fast paced game with not a lot of shots,” said Barker coach Jeff Costello.

Medina 6, Kenmore/City Honors 2

Hope Falzone made 28 saves, but it wasn’t enough to stave off the Mustangs as Medina beat the DevilDogs.

Roy-Hart 6, Newfane 0

Ashley Hill led the charge with two goals as the Lady Rams blanked Newfane.

Jamie Bower earned the shutout.

Boys soccer:

St.Joe’s 3, Timon 0

The Marauders improved to 6-1 overall after blanking Bishop-Timon in Monsignor Martin action.

Mark Varallo scored twice while Max Kwitchkoff collected two assists. Alex Hartman notched the shutout and Carson Ransom had the other goal for St.Joe’s.

Lockport 2, Kenmore East 1

Connor Kwoka scored on a PK and Hayden Coakley hit the game winner at the 50 minute mark as the Lions topped the Bulldogs under the lights at Adams Field.

Kyle Hofschneider, the 2017 NFL Player of the Year, scored for Ken-East.

Kenmore West 3, CSAT 1

Jack Reilly scored twice including one on a PK as the Blue Devils topped the Eagles.

CSAT’s Souleymane Diallo scored his league-leading 13th goal of the season.

“Every team CSAT has ever had no matter their skill level they’ve always been a hard working team,” said Jack Reilly. “And no matter what skill you have a hard working team is always gonna fight til the end and that’s a hard team to beat.”

Williamsville-East 4, Amherst 0

Two goals by Ben Woolingham helped the top ranked large school Flames beat Amherst, 4-0.

Starpoint 1, Williamsville-South 0

Matt Warner score the game winner for the Spartans, despite being outshot 12-8 .

North Collins 3, Frewsburg 0

A pair of goals by AJ Puntillo led North Collins to victory.

Lancaster 3,Williamsville North 1

Girls soccer:

Kenmore West 10, CSAT 0

Molly Tobin  (four points) tallied three goals as the Lady Blue Devils had little trouble with the Eagles. Eighth grader Mariah Huss  (2G,1A) added three points while Faye Panagopoulos, Vanessa Schmidt and Laura Cohn each had two points. The Lady Blue Devils also equalled last year’s regular season win total of three. Olivia Guarino picked up the shutout.

Nardin 1, Sacred Heart 0

Girls Volleyball: 

Roy-Hart 3, Wilson 0

Aspen Moore’s 23 kills helped the Lady Rams sweep the Lakewomen.

Kristina Burdick had 19 service aces in the win.

Golf:

Timon 197, Nichols 216
