Iroquois Crushes ECIC III Wrestling Competition to Reclaim League Title

With a 72-11 win over Tonawanda on senior night in Elma, the #12 state ranked Chiefs captured the ECIC III title posting a perfect 6-0 league record while improving to 25-3 overall in the 2019-2020 season.

“The first year being head coach is very stressful,” said new Chiefs coach Jim Kloc after the league clinching win. “It took me until about halfway through the year to appreciate everything that [former Iroquois head] coach Troy Almeter used to do behind the scenes.”

Iroquois last won the league title in ECIC II in the 2017-2018 season and previously before that in 2015-2016. The Chiefs cruised to the division title over their league opponents scoring no less than 64 points while giving up no more than 22 points in any of their six ECIC III duals.

“Being able to dominate like this was awesome,” said Kloc after the match. “The kids deserve it from the way they practice everyday. I want to just get everyone one hundred percent for the start of the class tournament and send as many guys as I can to states this year. In my opinion, I will have more than one kid standing on the podium in Albany.”

The Chiefs are in action next on Tuesday, February 4th at home against Section V’s Letchworth HS which is also Iroquois assistant coach Chris Nevinger’s alma mater.
