Isaiah McDuffie was named the 45th Connolly Cup award winner on Saturday afternoon at a special luncheon held at Ilio Dipaolo’s restaurant. It was the third time the Boston College commit had been nominated. Each season a special committee nominates and votes on a list of skilled position players and eventually name an overall winner.
“I’m very blessed to be given such a high honor,” McDuffie said while accepting his award. McDuffie was the fourth player in Connolly Cup history to be in the final 10 in three different years. It’s a special honor and one that Father and Coach Steve McDuffie says “it’s a family thing. This is something my Mother wanted for us.”
Isaiah’s younger cousin Dylan, a junior at St. Francis, was also up for the award. “I love him, I just tell him to keep working hard and hopefully we’re all back here next year for him,” Isaiah said.
Isaiah finished the 2016-17 season with 1,531 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. He’s committed to play football at Boston College in the Fall but he’ll go as a linebacker. Although nominated for the award as a running back, Isaiah was a force on defense as well, credited with 111 tackles.
Isaiah recorded three touchdowns in the Class A Title game against Starpoint out at New Era Field. The Tigers won 28-13 to win the Section VI Championship.
