Kenmore Boys RC back on the pitch

The Kenmore Boys Rugby Club is in their 15th year and started their 2018 season in early January when all of WNY was still a frozen tundra. Kenmore came off an impressive 2017 season finishing 3rd in NYS. The boys have been eager and excited to get back to the pitch to go after a State Championship and another Western Div. 1 Championship.

The team knows it has to put the work in early as they lost 14 players to graduation. They are fortunate to have added 12 1st year players having a solid 35 on the roster. While talking to coach Bill Conrad and coach Fred Bressette they were very impressed with this team’s depth and talent. They both agreed that there was not one player that stood out but said some players to keep an eye on are Will Klopp, Nick Julian, Cooper Laczkowski and St. Bonaventure commit John Milks. The coaches also were very impressed with how well conditioned the team came into camp and were ready to go. With Kenmore coming in 3rd place last year they are really looking to compete to be the top team in the state.

Kenmore already started their quest by going undefeated in the 2nd annual Challenge Cup Tournament at St. Bonaventure University back on March 10th.  In the tournament they played against Canisius RC, Grand Island RC and Fairport RC from Rochester. Even though it was an early season test coach Steve Caruana and coach Ernie Scales were impressed at the team’s decision making and effort. Players that stood out in these early games were Anthony Cutre, Joe Stewart, Chris Shaivone, John Seibert and Hunter Phillips.
