Kenmore West is Playoff Bound

Cameron Crosier scored two touchdowns as the Blue Devils posted a 36-13 win over Hamburg in their Section VI Class A-1 game that was played at Crosby Field, Saturday afternoon.

With the victory the Blue Devils (3-2, 3-3) secured second place in Class A-1.

Jamestown snagged third while Niagara Wheatfield was officially eliminated.

The Bulldogs (0-5, 1-5) used their size up front to control the line of scrimmage for the majority of the first half as the game was 0-0 after the first quarter.

Hamburg struck first when Spencer Dix plowed up the middle for a 19 yard touchdown run with 5:43 left in the second quarter.

Ken-West got the break they needed when Zac Boyes found Ramon Hill on a 48 yard TD pass. The duo would connect again on a two-point play that gave the Blue Devils the 8-7 lead with 1:10 left in the half. Scoring late in the half gave the Blue Devils the boost they needed.

“I felt like the speed and momentum was on our side,” said Hill.

The Blue Devils offense was held to less than a dozen plays in that first half. Which magnified the importance of the two scoring plays involving Hill.

“We have an explosive offense. Problem is we have to have the ball,” said Ken-West head coach John Haynes. “So it was huge, not only getting the touchdown, but also getting the two-point conversion and going into halftime being up 8-7.”

Joe Stewart extended the Ken-West lead to 14-7 when he scored on a 16 yard run.

Crosier scored on a 34 yard run then added another touchdown run to put the Blue Devils up 29-7.

Dosyear White’s pick six with just over a minute capped off the scoring for Ken-West.

Zach Nyhart scored on a 70-yard kick off return for the Bulldogs who now have to try to shake this loss off and prepare for their rivalry game against Frontier on Friday.

“I’ve been coaching at Hamburg long enough on varsity and JV to know that regardless of how the season is going, the ups and downs.. To know that we have Frontier last, it’s not too hard to get the guys motivated for that game because it’s a rivalry game,” said Hamburg coach Jeff Tripp.

The Blue Devils will prepare for their rivalry game against Kenmore East next Saturday.
