Lakemen Basketball Looks to Take Niagara Orleans League

The Wilson Lakemen look to improve on their 7-7 2015-16 league record, behind a team of seasoned veterans. The Lakemen expect to rely heavily on their returning players. Four of this season’s projected starters played valuable minutes for the Lakemen last season. Seniors Jonah Miller and Connor Seeley, both averaged over five points per game for Wilson in 2015-16. The duo should take on an even bigger role this season.

Sophomore guard, Steven Frerichs, has high aspirations for the Lakemen this season. “If we move the ball well and play as a team, we should be in every game,” Frerichs said. Frerichs was called up to Varsity midway through last season, and contributed greatly to the team after his call up.

With the departure of leading scorer and rebounder Ryan Bradley, there is a void to fill on the court for the Lakemen. Bradley was selected first team all-league for his efforts during his sophomore season. Another difference maker for the Lakemen was senior Alex Fox. Fox was Wilson’s second leading scorer, third in rebounds and third in assists. Alex was named second team all-league for the Lakemen as well. Though the duo played integral roles on the squad, the Lakemen have the depth to rebound from such a great loss. With a stockpile of young talent coming up from JV, and a strong returning cast, they seem poised to have success once again.

As always, there will be strong competition throughout the Niagara Orleans league. In 2015-16 Medina won the NO. After finishing in second place last season, Newfane looks to be a strong competitor as well. But with a new season, comes a new record; And as Wilson has done in three of the last eight years, Coach Sippel and his team, will look to come out on top in the Niagara Orleans league.
