Lew-Port’s Spameni Sends the Lancers to Semis in Double OT

Lew-Port 4, West Seneca West 3 (2OT)

The Lancers pulled out a huge double-overtime win over West Seneca West 4-3 in the nightcap at HarborCenter. Peter Spameni, one of the top scorers during the regular season, capped off a 3-point night by ending the game with his backhand shot at 4:35 of the 2nd OT.

Spameni scraped up a loose puck along the boards and put a nice move on a defenseman to get to the net. His backhand went low glove side and found the back of the net, propelling Lew-Port into the semi-final round for the first time in team history.

Joey Zachary started the scoring spree with a goal with 3:38 remaining in the first, giving Lew-Port the 1-0 lead. Jack Evert fed Zachary a nice pass off a 2-on-1 break that Zachary one-timed past Indians goaltender Griffin McAndrews.

Billy Coughlin would tie the game soon after for the Indians before the teams headed to the dressing room.

Zachary added his 2nd goal of the game early in the second period when Spameni knocked down a clearing attempt by WSW. Spameni slid the puck towards Evert who was waiting in front of the goal. Everts shot never really took off but Zachary was there to slap it into an empty net, giving the Lancers a one-goal lead again.

The Indians weren’t going to go away easily. After a flurry in front of Lancers goaltender Andrew Hanna, Joey Shea put a loose puck into the net, tying the game up at two apiece.

Not a minute later Spameni got on the board with his first goal of the game, once again putting the Lancers out front, 3-2.

WSW Junior Ethan Parsons, already a three-year starter, stepped up late in the period to once again tie the game up.

The teams went scoreless in the third period before heading to OT. The Indians were outshooting Lew-Port 31-21 at the end of regulation.

Despite having the man advantage in the 1st overtime, Lew-Port was unable to take advantage of the opportunity as the teams again went scoreless.

Spameni became the hero with 2:55 remaining in the 2nd OT.

Coughlin finished his final game with West Seneca West with a 3-point night and McAndrews made 22 saves in the loss.

Lew-Port will battle Starpoint on Thursday at 8:30pm at HarborCenter with the winner moving on to the Key Bank Center with the Section VI D-II title on the line.
