Maryvale Dominates Lew-Port

The Maryvale Flyers wasted no time in defeating their division rival Lew Port Lancers 62-6 in their home opener. The Flyers dominated from the get-go, forcing a three and out on Lew-Port’s first possession and then following it up with a blocked punt. Maryvale would score on the ensuing possession, and it was all Flyers from there.

Maryvale Quarterback Connor Desiderio threw three touchdown passes in the first half. The Flyers also got things going on the ground as four different Flyers reached the end zone this evening.

Maryvale Head Coach Jeff Buccieri talked about his game plan following the victory.

“We knew they were a very big football team on both sides of the ball, but we wanted to establish the run like we did against Cleve Hill,” said Buccieri. “This week we got the passing game going, which was huge once they started to stymie the run.”

Defensively, the Flyers continued their hot start giving up only six points for the second straight week. Their strong performance kept the Lancers off the field allowing Maryvale to open up the lead.

“The plan was to bury them from the beginning, and I think that is what we did,” said Desiderio. “It was just a fun game and we want to continue to do that every single week.”

Next up for the Flyers is another division rival in Pioneer. Maryvale will hit the road for the second time in 2018 to face the Panthers as they look to improve to 3-0 on the season. Kickoff is at 7pm on Friday night.
