Medina Boys Soccer Tops Tonawanda

Medina/Lyndonville won their first game in dramatic fashion by scoring 2 goals in the final minutes to defeat Tonawanda 2-1. Vassilios Bitsas was the man of the match with the tying goal in the 75th minute and just moments later assisting on the game winner scored by Kristian Snyder in the 78th minute.

This was a well played game with each team having a number of chances in the 1st half. Aaron Holler and Dylan Lewis created a number of chances for the Warriors that included one shot hitting off the crossbar in the 10th minute.  However,  both keepers, Jacob Hoffee of the Mustangs and Adam Moore of Warriors kept a clean sheet through the first half.

In the second half, the Mustangs quickly earned a set piece that saw Ethan Leonard play a great ball into the box where Snyder rang off the crossbar. The Warriors quickly countered off that scoring opportunity and played a ball out to Holler who rifted one pass Hoffee to give Tonawanda the 1-0 lead. However, that would be the last real threat Tonawanda would have as the Medina defense led by Coby Albone, Owen Frasier, and Adam Cifelli clamped down on Holler and the rest of the Warriors.

Finally after a number of scoring chances the Mustangs broke through when Leonard found Bitsas with a great through ball that found him 1v1 with Moore and beat him lower corner in the 75th minute. Then just moments later in the 78th minute Bitsas provided Snyder with almost the exact same through ball which Snyder buried in the lower corner as well.

Medina/Lyndonville (1-0) will look to stay unbeaten as they head to Park School this Tuesday. Tonawanda (1-2) will try to rebound as they open up league play Friday at Eden.
