Niagara Catholic Junior-Senior High School has closed its doors for good, per a report from The Buffalo News earlier this afternoon.
Niagara County’s only remaining secondary Catholic school is finished after providing over 40 years of Catholic education. The co-education school was formed after Bishop Duffy and Madonna High Schools merged in 1975.
According to The News, the Buffalo Catholic Diocese had pulled its subsidization, which accounted for 10 percent of the school’s overall budget. The school had just 121 students signed up for next year.
Niagara Catholic was a member of the Monsignor Martin Athletic Conference offering five men’s sports, including a combined football team with Nichols, and three women’s sports.
The closing leaves high touted boys basketball player Jalen Bradberry without a school and team at the moment. Bradberry led the Patriots to a 15-9 record and a Monsignor Martin Class B title this past season as a freshman. Last season, he played for Niagara-Wheatfield in the Niagara Frontier League of Section VI.
The Class of 2021 guard is currently playing with the City Rocks AAU team this summer.
*A previous version of this story said Bradberry plays for the Corey Grahman Elite AAU team
