Every minute on the field. Every rep in the weight room. Every assignment in the class room led them to this special day.
On Feb.9, North Tonawanda High School seniors Alex Johnson (line/TE) and Robert Rozicki (OL/DL) hisigned their National Letters of Intent to play college football.
Johnson, who will major in physical education, signed to play with Division III Cortland State. “When I went there it was a really nice campus. Really nice coaches,” Johnson said of his visit to Cortland. “It just felt really good when I went out there and I decided to go there.”
Rozicki, who will pursue a career as an architect, will bring his talents to DIII Alfred State.
“I’m just honored,” Rozicki said of the moment. “I’ve dreamt of playing in college ever since I was young and started playing the sport. It’s great.”
Both made significant contributions to the Lumberjacks last fall as the team went 4-2 in Section VI Class A North for a second place finish.
NT defeated Iroquois at home in the quarter finals before losing to Bennett in the semis.
Johnson and Rozicki also helped the Jacks continue their mastery of the Warriors in the TNT Classic.
Excited for the next phase of their lives as student-athletes both said the lessons learned under the watchful eye of head football coach Henry Fumerelle were key helping them both reach this day.
“In the weight room every day just working hard with the coaches,” said Rozicki.
Memories made on and off the field will also stay with them both for the long haul.
“Definitely give props to coach “Fume” for the daily workouts he had us doing before the season,” said Johnson.
“Best memories I have are the spaghetti dinners and definitely the win over Will-South my junior year in overtime. That was great.”
