NYSPHSAA Wrestling Championships Day One Roundup

After day one of the 2019 NYS wrestling championships at Times Union Center in Albany, ten out of the area’s twenty-five large school representatives made it to Saturday’s day two. The Section has five semifinalists while one wrestler will represent the Msgr. Martin league. Saturday’s semifinals begin at 10am.

Saturday morning Division I semifinals:

138: #2 Willie McDougald, Niagara Falls vs #6 Kyle Althenn, Mepham (VIII)

152: #1 Warren McDougald, Niagara Wheatfield vs. #6 Joey McGinty, Monroe-Woodbury (IX)

152: #2 Ryan Stencel, Lancaster vs. #6 Dan Mauriello, Hauppauge (XI)

160: #3 Adam Daghestani, Grand Island vs. #2 Kyle Mosher, South Side/East Rockaway (VIII)

182: #4 Dominik Thomas, St. Francis vs. #1 Jake Logan, New Rochelle (I)

Wrestlers in the consolation quarterfinals are one match away from guaranteed placement. Losers in this round are done for the weekend.

On the small school side, twelve of the twenty-five Section VI wrestlers are still alive after day one. The Section has half a dozen semifinalists looking to make their ways in the Saturday night championships.
