This is how I voted in the latest weekly state football rankings:
AA
1 – Canisius (2-0) – Ranked 2nd in state behind Iona Prep – CHSFL
2 – Lancaster (3-0) – Ranked 6th
3- St. Francis (3-0) – Ranked 21st
4 – Bennett (3-0) – Ranked 11th
5 – Clarence (2-1) – Honorable Mention
Canisius is the best team in WNY. I don’t care if they played one less game than anybody else. Top to bottom, the team is stacked and I can’t see anybody in town beating them. Although I am really looking forward to their week 8 match-up against St. Francis.
A
1 – Jamestown (3-0) – Ranked 2nd in state behind Garden City Sec VIII
2 – South Park (2-1) – Honorable Mention
3 – Hamburg (3-0) – Ranked 18th
4 – Sweet Home (3-0) – Ranked 16th
5- Frontier (2-1) – Ranked 20th
HM – Grand Island (2-1) HM, Williamsville South (1-2) HM
Jamestown is good we all know that. Despite a week one loss to West Seneca West, the next best team in A is South Park and to me….I lose sleep wondering if they might actually be the best team in this Class. We will find out in Week 5 when they return to Strider Field.
B
1 – Iroquois (3-0) – Ranked 2nd in state behind Maine-Endwell Section IV
2 – WNY Maritime/Health Sciences (1-2) – Honorable Mention
3 – Albion (3-0) – Ranked 15th
4 – West Seneca East (3-0) – Ranked 20th
5- St. Mary’s of Lancaster (2-0) – Ranked 16th
It’s laughable that WNY Maritime/Health Sciences were excluded from anyone’s Top 10 and the weekly rankings. I guess I need to be a little more convincing. They’e being punished for losing to Bennett and Canisius. Did anybody expect them to beat either? Name 5 teams that would stay within 2 TDs of Canisius? Name 10 teams that could beat Bennett? Other then Iroquois, not too many teams line up well with the Falcons. They will be playing for the Class B title.
C
1- Medina (3-0) – Ranked #1 in NYS
2 – Akron (3-0) – Ranked 4th
3- Fredonia (2-0) – Ranked 10th
4- Salamanca (3-0) – Ranked 13th
5 – Southwestern (1-2) – Honorable Mention
State HM’s Depew, Lackawanna and Wilson
Tough to rank after Medina the clear-cut top seed in Class C. Of course Akron might have something to say about that statement, they faceoff Friday night.
D
1 – Clymer/Sherman/Panama (3-0) – Ranked #1 in State
2- Randolph (3-0) – Ranked 4th
3 – Franklinville/Ellicottville (2-1) – Ranked 9th
4- Portville (2-1) – Ranked 15th
Game of the week as far as I’m concerned is Saturday when Randolph invades Panama. See you there. There should have been an investigation as to why CSP was left off the local small school rankings last week.
