Otto resigning from Lancaster

For the first time in over a decade, Lancaster High School will be looking for a new Boys Basketball coach.

Tuesday, John Otto posted on Facebook that he is resigning after being at the helm of the program for the past 11 seasons.

According to, Otto eclipsed the 100-win mark last season and led the Legends to their first Class AA Sectional title in over six decades in 2020. He coached program career record holder Gianluca Fulciniti (assists) and single-season record holders Jakob Jerebko (3-point percentage, free-throws made) and L.G. Castillo (field goal percentage).

In his post, he said, “it was apparent the new administration wanted the program to go in a different direction.”

WNY Athletics has reached out to Lancaster administration for comment but have not heard back at this time.
