Pioneer Claims Seventh Consecutive ECIC Wrestling Title

With a 64-19 win at home over Lake Shore on Wednesday night, the #15 state ranked Panthers captured their seventh straight ECIC title, improving to 51-0 in league duals over the last seven seasons between ECIC divisions II and III.

“Our kids take a lot of pride in our winning streak,” said Pioneer head coach Chris Edwards. “They understand what it means to be a Pioneer Wrestler. I’m very proud of what they accomplished this season.”

Pioneer completed another 7-0 undefeated season on the way to the ECIC II crown in one of the better divisions in the region that features four ranked teams and a handful of other quality squads. The Panthers improved to 22-6 overall this season with a fourth place finish at the Section VI Duals on the team’s resume. League opponents Amherst and Starpoint proved to be solid challengers for Pioneer, especially the Spartans, where the Panthers won an exciting, down to the wire 39-30 dual at home on Wednesday, January 22nd which also resulted in Coach Edwards’ 200th career win.

Pioneer is in action next at the Section VI Class B Championships on Saturday, February 8th.
