Pray Boys Looking to Keep State Title in the Family

Last season Adam and Jacob Pray sat in the HarborCenter and took in the celebration that consumed uncle Kyle and cousin Trevor. The Father and son duo had just won the NYS small school hockey championship in OT for Kenmore East. Kyle as head coach, Trevor the NYS player of the year had just scored the winner.

A year later Adam and Jacob will be looking to make their own memories as twin brothers and teammates for the Kenmore West Blue Devils. After helping their team advance out of the semi-finals with a win over Hamburg on Wednesday, the Pray boys are ready to write the next chapter in the family book of hockey.

On Monday night the Blue Devils will face-off against the West Seneca East Trojans for the Section VI small school title. The Trojans defeated Williamsville East in double OT to help secure a seat in the finals.

“This was definitely one of the goals our team set before the season (playing at KBC)” Adam said. “We know we have a lot more work left though.”

Don Pray, the boys Father is the head coach at Grand Island. “Hockey has always been a big part of our lives” Jacob said. “This has always been a goal to win this game, not just play here. It was great to see last year with my cousin now it’s our chance to represent Kenmore and show how big hockey is there. Especially for our family.”

With a win Monday, the Blue Devils would have a couple rivers left to cross if they want to keep the state title in the family. The Section VI small school division winner will travel to Rochester to take on a team from Section V on Saturday March 4th.

The Division I large and Division II small school championship weekend will be held March 11th and 12th at HarborCenter.
