West Seneca West one win away
Last week Tyler Dunning said he didn’t want his high school season to come to an end so he was just gonna keep grinding it out
Dunning did just that as he scored the game winner as Section VI West Seneca West blanked Section I John Jay, 3-0, in the NYSPHSAA Division II semifinal game that was played at HarborCenter Saturday afternoon.
The win lifts the Indians into the program’s first-ever state championship game on Sunday (3pm) where they will face the winner of Section III Auburn/Section VI Sweet Home game.
The same Sweet Home team West Seneca West defeated to win the sectional title.
Dunning’s goal came in the second period when he caught John Jay goalie Taylor Isom out of position and went top shelf.
Matt Myers and Colin Deubell added third period goals for the Indians.
Noah Sobczyk made 24 saves for the shutout.
If Sweet Home advances this would make this first time two Section VI teams will meet for a state title.
