Victor (V) scored four unanswered goals to help them advance to the NYSPHSAA Large School Division Championship on Sunday. The Blue Devils trailed Massena (X) 2-0 after the opening period but they would took advantage of Red Raider penalties in the second and third periods, scoring three power play goals leading them to a birth in Sunday’s state final match-up with Niagara Wheatfield (VI).
The Red Raiders were making their second straight trip to Buffalo in hopes of playing for the school’s seventh state title, but like 2016-17, the team failed to make it to Sunday.
Josh Albert’s power play goal at 14:16 of the third period tied the game at 2. Less than two minutes later, Lukas Miller’s power play goal gave Victor the lead and the Blue Devils never looked back.
Blue Devils goaltender Chayse Ierlan made 12 saves for the win while Red Raiders goaltender Nathan Moffit stopped 14 shots.
Massena committed 13 minor penalties, five in the 3rd period alone.
Millspaugh finished with a goal and an assist while Mitch Rydzynski had two assists for Victor.
Logan Chilton and Nicholas Linstad scored for Massena.
Sunday’s championship game will start at 12 noon.
