REPORT: Kelly leaving St. Joe’s

A little more than a week after losing one of its schools it appears the Monsignor Martin Athletic Association may be losing one its’ most popular student-athletes.

Casey Kelly, the St. Joseph’s Collegiate Institute two-year starting quarterback and lacrosse midfielder, appears to be heading south and not coming back to the Lasallian school for his senior year.

On Friday, it was discovered that Kelly’s MaxPreps page profile appeared on the football roster for Mallard Creek High School in Charlotte, NC.

Kevin Kelly, Casey’s father, told WNY Athletics “no comment.”

St. Joe’s Athletic Director Brian Anken was aware of the report but has not heard of the transfer officially at this time.

“We are very proud of the work Casey has put in as a Marauder,” Anken told WNY Athletics.

Kelly has been a strong two-sport athlete for the Marauders playing huge parts in both the football and lacrosse teams’ success this year.

The 6′ 3″, 220-pound quarterback led the football team to a 6-5 record and an appearance in the MMAA championship game this past fall and was named a Connolly Cup finalist.

During the spring, Kelly scored 36 goals and had 40 assists helping the lacrosse team to its third-straight MMAA title this past spring.

Kelly is the younger brother of former St. Joe’s and current Denver Broncos quarterback Chad Kelly and the nephew of former Buffalo Bill and Pro Football Hall of Famer Jim Kelly.
