The results from the 2019 Section VI Bowling Championships held last week at Airport Lanes in Cheektowaga.
The following teams and athletes will be representing Section VI at the 2019 NYSPHSAA Bowling Championships on the weekend of March 8-10 at Strike ‘N Spare Lanes in Syracuse.
The Orchard Park boys and girls teams both won the Section VI Large School Championships. The Tonawanda boys team and the Dunkirk girls team won the Section VI Small School titles. The four teams will compete for team titles at states.
Section VI will also bring six-member boys and girls “All-Star teams” to compete for the Section Division Championships at states.
The top-three overall bowlers at sectionals, whose teams didn’t make states, earned spots on the “All-Star team.”
Bowlers who were given the distinction of a “Pool Bowler,” meaning they were a top-bowler in their league during the regular season, competed for the other three spots. The final three “All-Star” slots went to the top-three Pool Bowlers at sectionals, whose team didn’t earn trips to States or weren’t a top-three overall bowler.
The Cheektowaga girls team won the first NYS Small School Championship last year. Frontier was the last boys team from Section VI to bring home a state title, winning it in 2014. Section VI last won the Girls Sectional Division Championship back in 2015, the boys last won in 2012.
