Section VI Football Week Three Recap: Class AA

Lancaster and Bennett were the big winners this past weekend. Lockport breaks into the win column as well.

Lancaster 34, Williamsville North 26

Heading into this slugfest the Legends were caught short-handed after some sort of bug spread through the locker room. That may have slowed down a weaker team but not Lancaster. They used this as fuel and took care of business.

Will North drew first blood when Scott Hopkins scored a short yardage TD in the 1st quarter but the point after missed the mark. Lancaster responded with a TD of their own. Gianluca Fulciniti found Brian Martin and after a successful extra point after, the Legends took the lead and never relinquished.

Jason Mansell threw two touchdowns in the second quarter to give the Legends a 20-12 halftime edge. The Spartans responded; Joe Nusall threw two of his 3 TD’s in the third and fourth quarters, leading North to a 26-20 lead. Lancaster kept at it and found the end zone early in the fourth quarter; this time Fulciniti dove in from a yard out and with the extra point put the Legends in the lead 27-26.

Brandon Wingard added a 25-yard TD run to put Lancaster up 8 points and put the game away.

Bennett 34, Clarence 7

The Bennett Tigers went back-to-back against Class AA foe’s after knocking off Clarence 34-7 Friday.

Djae Perry, Semaj Clemons and Justin Campbell all had rushing TD’s for Bennett. The Tigers’ line play on both sides of the ball have to be commended. They simply overmatched Clarence.

Orchard Park 21, Hutch-Tech 16

The Quakers scored all 21 points in the first half of Friday’s win over Hutch-Tech for their 3rd win of the season. Jack Sharpe continues to put up some good numbers finishing with 20 completions and a touchdown pass. He also scrambled for two scores.

The Engineers Otis Houston caught a 64-yard TD pass from Jayden Robinson in the second quarter and Anthony Whitfield had a 1-yard rushing TD.

Lockport 38, Niagara Falls 30

The Lions get their first win in two seasons after upsetting Niagara Falls on Saturday. Lockport was leading 28-0 after the first quarter. The Wolverines hung in there and played tough till the end.

For Lockport Malik Brooks caught two TD passes from Nick Cascia (31 & 34 yards) and Robert Marotta had a pick-6 in the 4th quarter. Cascia had a rushing TD as well.

Outlook

Lancaster, Bennett and Orchard Park remain the only unbeaten teams in league play. Hutch Tech, Niagara Falls and Clarence are all 0-2. Will North (1-1) will host Bennett on Friday. Clarence is in a tough spot and could really use a win Friday at Lancaster to stay in the playoff hunt, especially if the Spartans can knock off Bennett.
