In the last week of the regular season all seven of the Section VI wrestling league champion teams were crowned as well as the MMHSAA league champion.
In the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association, Falconer claimed its seventh straight CCAA Division 1 title going 6-0 in league action. The Golden Falcons are 41-1 in league duals going back to the 2011-2012 season. Randolph defended their CCAA Division 2 title making it three straight league championships for the Cardinals who also went 6-0 in the league and stretched its league win streak to 18.
Lancaster reclaimed the ECIC Division 1 title with a 7-0 record in league matches. Iroquois reclaimed the ECIC Division 2 title going 7-0 this season in league matches. Pioneer went undefeated in league duals for the fifth straight year and wrapped up the ECIC Division 3 title going 7-0 in the league. This was the third straight ECIC 3 title for the Panthers and the fifth straight overall going back to the 2013-2014 season when Pioneer was in ECIC 2. Pioneer is 37-0 over this five-year stretch.
The Grand Island Vikings won the first Niagara-Frontier League wrestling league title in school history in 2017-2018 going 6-0 in league matches and 25-4 overall. The Vikings were the runner up team at the Section VI Dual Meet Tournament as well.
Newfane won its fifth straight Niagara-Orleans League title with a 5-0 record in league duals. The Panthers league unbeaten streak now sits at 25 straight victories.
St. Francis went 4-0 in league action this season and claimed the MMHSAA league title. The Red Raiders followed up their league title by winning the CHSAA Dual Meet Championship as the state’s top Catholic school.
On Saturday, February 3rd the five Section VI Class tournaments will be held. Teams and individuals will have the chance to win Sectional titles and qualify for the large and small school Divisional tournaments. The top six place finishers in each weight in Classes AA and A will advance to the large school Divisional, while the top four place finishers in each weight from Classes B, C, and D will advance to the small school Division tournament.
