St. Francis Seniors Awarded Scholarships from the
Jeffrey Michael Sgroi Foundation
On Friday, June 8th Cole O’Connor ’18 and Justin Kirst ’18 were each awarded $1500 scholarships from the Jeffrey Michael Sgroi Foundation. These scholarships are given to graduating seniors that exemplify the same outstanding qualities that characterized the life of former St. Francis High School baseball coach and community stalwart Jeff Sgroi who passed away from cancer in 2016 at the age of 45. Recipients must be academically sound, volunteer in their school and community and participate in more than one interscholastic sport. O’Connor played football and baseball and will be attending Niagara University where he will continue his academic and baseball career. He resides in Hamburg and is the son of Cynthia O’Connor and Christopher O’Connor. Kirst was a member of the hockey and baseball programs at St. Francis and will study and play baseball at Wentworth Institute in Boston, MA. Justin is the son of Tim and Trish Kirst and lives in Boston, NY.
