St. Mary’s star Ciezki commits to Penn State

St. Mary’s Lancaster guard Shay Ciezki has committed to play her college ball at Penn State, the senior announced on social media Friday night.

“I chose Penn State because of the way the school made me feel,” Ciezki said. “I stepped on campus, and everybody always told me, ‘Oh, when you know, you know!’ and that’s exactly how I felt. It was just home.”

In 15 games during her junior season for the Lancers, Ciezki averaged 24.6 points, 7.0 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game to lead her team to a 12-3 overall record, meaning the Nittany Lions will be getting a versatile guard that can do it all. While it’s too early to tell just what her role will be, she expressed confidence that, with hard work, she’ll be able to contribute and play quality minutes.

Ciezki is a three-time All-Western New York first-team member and was named the 2021 Monsignor Martin Player of the Year. The Lady Lancer is well within reaching the 4,000 point plateau, now sitting at 1,370.

With one year left at St. Mary’s before heading to the Division I level, she hopes to leave it all out on the floor for the Lancers.

“It’s going to be a really fun year,” Ciezki said. “We’re going to try and score as many wins as we can and I’ll be pushing for some school records too. I’m looking forward to it.”
