Thousand Islands Duals Set for This Weekend

The annually held 1000 Islands Summer Duals is set for Friday, August 4th through Sunday, August 6th at Clayton Arena in Clayton, New York. There are forty-seven teams entered in this years’ Duals, with most teams coming from New York State and others coming from Massachusetts, Maine, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Vermont.

Five Buffalo area teams are entered to compete in one of the country’s largest and most competitive off season team dual meet tournaments. Clarence, Lockport, Starpoint, Team Niagara, and Cobra Club have teams entered consisting of some of western New York’s most talented high school wrestlers.

Round one will begin on Friday, August 4th at 5:30pm. Lockport will be taking on Section Three’s (central New York) South Jefferson team and Starpoint will be wresting Team Apex Elite Wrestling Club out of Section Five (Rochester/Genesee Valley area).

Clarence, led by defending Section 6 individual champion Aiden Rabideau, and five other sectional place winners will face F.O.S. I.V. All Stars (Section 4/Binghamton/Southern Tier) in the first round as well. Cobra Club, who were fourth overall in the summer 2016 1000 Islands Duals tournament, and Team Niagara will both begin wrestling in the second round of the tournament beginning at approximately 7pm on Friday, August 4th. Team Niagara will wrestle the winner of Delaware Valley (New Jersey) and Horseheads (Section 4). Cobra will wrestle the winner of Gouverneur (Section 10/Northern New York) and Midlakes (Section 5/Rochester).
