West Seneca East, St.Joe’s and Frontier win

Passion and pride were on display as the WNY Varsity Ice Hockey Federation had it’s quadruple header rivalry day at the HarborCenter on MLK Day.

Four of the league’s most intense rivalries were featured with Frontier, St.Joe’s, West Seneca East and Kenmore West all coming out on top.

West Seneca East 6 West Seneca West 1 Getting back on the winning track could not have come at a better time for West Seneca East as two point efforts by Dominic Khoury (G/A) and Cameron Mentel (G/A) helped the Trojans score a dominating 6-1 win over West Seneca West to win their Division III meeting end their three-game losing streak.

“It means more than I can explain to you to win this game,” West Seneca East coach Phil Prynn said.

“We’ve been on a pretty bad snide the last three or four games. We lost three in a row. Things not going in. We’re not doing our job. We felt we were playing good, we just weren’t getting the results. It was a good time to get off the snide.”

Getting off to a good start to the season, Prynn said the recent slide was a test of character and that today’s game would go a long way in defining who they are as a team.

“Coming in today it was a real gut check time for our guys,” Prynn said. “We think we have ability. We think we’re a good team, but we weren’t seeing it. For everything to go into it feels really good. It’s a big relief.”

St.Joe’s 4 Canisius 0

Senior goalie Donovan Boshier (17 saves) was awarded the game puck and sophomore Ethan Louisos has two goals as the Marauders (8-1-1) blanked the Crusaders. Jack Lalley (goal/assists) and Jeremy Ienco (two assists) had two points apiece.

Frontier 3 Hamburg 2 The second of Jeff Walczak’s two goals on the day proved to be the game-winner as the Falcons upset the Bulldogs in the opening game.

Kenmore West 2 Kenmore East 0 The Blue Devils won the Battle of Kenmore 2-0. It marked the first time since 2006 that Ken-West defeated their district rivals in the regular season. Full game recap: http://wnyathletics.com/2017/01/seyfang-nets-winner/
