Salamanca sophomore Kasen Hardy has been selected as the WNY Athletics Boys Wrestler of the Week presented by Hamburg Radiator Auto & Air for the week of Monday, February 9th – Sunday, February 15th, 2026.
Kasen captured the Section VI Division II 285-pound title on Sunday at SUNY Fredonia to punch his ticket to the NYS championships for the first time. As the 2-seed in the bracket, Kasen reached the semifinals with two pins on Saturday. In the semifinal, Kasen gutted out a 6-2 decision win to reach the title match. In the Sunday evening finale, Kasen earned a late third period pin to secure the heavyweight title and automatic qualification to the state tournament. Kasen was a 5th place winner in Section VI in 2025 but is now Salamanca’s first sectional champion since two-time NYS champion Ben Haas in 2012.
After making a real commitment to offseason wrestling in which he placed at NHSCA’s in Virginia Beach and competed at Fargo Nationals, Kasen has enjoyed a true breakout season, carrying a 36-4 record going into the state tournament.
At Salamanca High School Kasen is a straight A, three sport student-athlete also participating in football and track. He is already a two-time captain on the wrestling team and is part of the Warriors’ Captains Club. Kasen is also in junior honor society and is active in the community shoveling snow, mowing lawns, babysitting, and helping with youth wrestling.
