WNY Athletics Girls Wrestler of the Week presented by The Cottages at Bemus Point: Alexa Doxey

Newfane sophomore Alexa Doxey has been selected as the WNY Athletics Girls Wrestler of the Week presented by The Cottages at Bemus Point for the week of Monday, February 23rd – Saturday, February 28th, 2026.

Alexa claimed 4th place in the NYS girls wrestling championships on Thursday in Albany as the 8-seed in the 132-pound bracket. Alexa was a first round winner before falling to the top seed in the quarterfinal. After dropping to the consolation, she earned a pin in the blood round to ensure a top-6 NYS podium finish. Alexa has been a critical part of the combined Niagara Wheatfield/Niagara Falls/Newfane girls team this season playing a crucial role that helped the team secure the first Section VI Girls Dual Meet Wrestling Championships title in January as well.

According to her coaches, Alexa is a quiet leader by example who works extremely hard on the mat. Even though she was new to the combined team this season, she earned the respect and trust of her teammates through her effort. Her coaches say that she was always willing to bump up in weight to help the team. Her coaches also note her willingness to be coached and that she handles both wins and losses with dignity and that her attitude is to ‘never lose again.’ After missing the end of last season due to injury, Alexa had a true comeback season in helping to win a Section VI Duals title, the 132-pound individual Section VI title, and ultimately finishing 4th in NYS. Alexa carries a strong, honors level GPA at Newfane High School.
