WNY Athletics Wrestler Of the Week: Aiden Rabideau

Clarence junior Aiden Rabideau has been selected as the WNY Athletics Wrestler Of the Week for Week 6 of the 2018-2019 wrestling season (1/2-1/5/2019).

Aiden currently holds a 32-1 season record and took home the NFWOA Classic 126-pound title last weekend. The bracket was one of (if not the) the deepest weight classes at the event. Rabideau stood out over the grueling two-day event and earned 1st place with an impressive win over Hamburg’s Dylan Collins by major decision 9-0 in the final. Rabideau also defeated a very tough opponent in Williamsville North’s Mike Catanzaro by decision, 3-0, in the Spartans’ and Red Devils’ ECIC I dual last Wednesday, January 2nd to help the Red Devils win and improve to 4-0 in the league and 15-1 overall.  Rabideau, a two-time Section VI champion, has only one loss on the season; a 3-1 decision to Tonawanda’s Zach Braddell, a three-time Section VI champion and two-time state place winner, and up a weight class back in the first weekend of the season.

Rabideau has individual tournament titles at ECIC, Teike-Bernabi, and now the NFWOA Classic and is a key piece in head coach Jason Chase’s WNY #3 Red Devils squad. Clarence is also a NYSSWA Honorable Mention team in the latest January 1st poll.

Aiden is on most, if not all career statistical leader boards for the Clarence wrestling program. Two weeks ago he broke the program’s career pins record – as a junior – with his 101st pin. That number continues to grow.

“Aiden works extremely hard at wrestling, he is a great teammate, and has a good attitude in school” stated Chase on his junior standout. “Aiden always represents himself, team, and family with great sportsmanship.”
