St. Joe’s senior Jayson Kline has been selected as the WNY Athletics Wrestler of the Week for the week of Wednesday, November 29th – Saturday, December 2nd, 2023.
Kline went a perfect 5-0 in the opening week of the season helping the Marauders to a big dual meet win and pacing the team to a 5th place finish at the Matthew Marino Invitational at Webster-Schroeder HS.
On Thursday, Kline earned a crucial technical fall against a strong Amherst squad that helped St. Joe’s defeat the Tigers by a narrow two point margin. Then, on Saturday in Webster, Jayson earned another tech fall and two more pins to land in the 145-pound semifinals. Kline earned a second period pin over a returning NYS tournament qualifier to move on to the 1st place bout where took down another returning qualifier by decision, 4-3, to capture the 145-pound title.
Jayson is a returning CHSAA Championships 3rd place winner and a key part of the #4 Marauders’ lineup. According to his coaches, Jayson is an extremely hard working student-athlete who holds an honors level GPA while also serving on campus ministry retreats.
