Starpoint freshman Kole Haseley has been selected as the WNY Athletics Wrestler of the Week for the week of Monday, January 23rd to Saturday, January 28th, 2023.
Haseley posted a 4-0 record with four pins on Saturday at the 5th NYSPHSAA Dual Meet Championships in Syracuse to help lead the Spartans to the NYS Div. I dual meet title.
Haseley earned a pin in the Spartans’ opening round win over Cicero-North Syracuse after falling behind 2-0 to start the 110-pound match.
In their second dual against Fairport, Haseley again found himself down in the match. Kole chose top in the 3rd period and eventually got the pin with only 30-seconds left in the 102-pound bout, late in the dual.
In the semifinal against Wantagh, Haseley got taken down in the first period and was called for a stalling on bottom shorty after. However, Kole again came up with magic on top to start the second period and earned a crucial pin in the 110-pound bout.
Finally, Kole found himself cruising up 10-2 in the third period before earning his fourth pin of the day in the state championship match against Minisink Valley.
So far this season, Haseley is 33-8 and has been a vital piece of the lineup for the Spartans in the lower weights. According to his coaches, Kole is a hard worker and also maintains good grades.
